Air Asia is the largest Asian Low Cost Carrier. We have flown them before Paul's time a couple of times and now it is Paul's turn to review them.

On the Ground:
Air Asia departs from Bangkok's old Don Muang Airport Terminal 1.
The Airport is rather old and looks worn out. Don Muang is soley used by low cost carriers.

As we bought Premium Flex tickets, we were able to check in at the dedicated Premium Check-in Counter in Bangkok.
No queue at check-in and it was done in no time. Agent was ok. No interaction with customers or any chitchat.

Only a short queue at emigration.
No queue at the security checkpoint.

I was surprised to see a centralized security at this airport and even more surprised that all security scanners were new and no more need to remove liquids.

We didn't use any lounge. Well there is basically no real lounge at Don Muang Airport.

Boarding into the lounge started a little ahead if time. Staff was rather unfriendly and grumpy.
Boarding itself was a disaster.
There is no need to buy premium flex or priority boarding as everyone is allowed to board at the same time. In addition the aircraft was parked on a remote stand and everyone was in the same bus.
#airasia why aren't you using a separate bus for your premium flex and big seats customers. 7 rows a 6 seats is 42 passengers which is one bus.

The crew was super friendly but not present in the cabin whilst boarding.
Announcements hardly understandable in English.

Inflight:
This Airbus 320 is configured with a 3/3 economy class seating. With the premium flex tickets we were allowed to choose a hot seat.
We got our two seats next to the emergency exit. The seats were comfortable and ok.

After take off the cabin crew started with the service.
First the pre-order meals were distributed and then they passed with the trolley. Food and beverages are against payment on Air Asia. Certain tickets include a meal and a drink.
The food we had preordered was good and fresh.

Bathrooms were ok and keept clean throughout the entire flight.

To many pre recorded announcements. Basically ever 5-10 minutes an announcement was made announcing something to buy or info.

No inflight entertainment.
No WiFi available.

Air Asia could improve their ancillaries if they would introduce a WiFi and maybe an entertainment option.

All in all a good flight for a reasonable price.
I would definitely recommend Air Asia when traveling in the region.
