Air Asia is the largest Asian Low Cost Carrier. We have flown them before Paul's time a couple of times and now it is Paul's turn to review them.
On the Ground:
Air Asia departs from Singapore Changi Airport Terminal 4. The Terminal has been newly renovated and in my opinion looks much better and is actually better than Terminal 1.
As we bought Premium Flex tickets, we were able to check in at the dedicated Premium Check-in Counter in Singapore.
No queue at check-in and it was done in no time. Agent was ok. No interaction with customers or any chitchat.
No queue at emigration as I was able to use the automated gates.
Only a short queue at the security checkpoint.
Terminal 4 has a centralized security. This is much much more convenient than the ones in Terminal 1 before each gate.
All security scanners are new and no more need to remove laptops etc.
We didn't use any lounge. The Terminal 4 is amazing and offers lots of F&B outlets and plenty of seating options.
Boarding started exactly on the indicated time. Great pre-recorded announcements played several times before boarding which explained the boarding process. Perfect priority boarding as well as group boarding.
The crew was super friendly and present in the cabin whilst boarding.
Inflight:
This Airbus 320 is configured with a 3/3 economy class seating. With the premium flex tickets we were allowed to choose a hot seat.
We got our two seats next to the emergency exit. The seats were comfortable and ok.
After take off the cabin crew started with the service.
First the pre-order meald were distributed and then they passed with the trolley. Food and beverages are against payment on Air Asia. Certain tickets include a meal and a drink.
The food we had preordered was good and fresh.
Bathrooms were ok and keept clean throughout the entire flight.
No inflight entertainment.
No WiFi available.
Air Asia could improve their ancillaries if they would introduce a WiFi and maybe an entertainment option.
All in all a good flight for a reasonable price.
I would definitely recommend Air Asia when traveling in the region.
