And also on this sector we could see and experience major improvements compared to our flight in February.
Well done Kenya Airways.
On the Ground:
As we were in transit in Nairobi and checked through, we only had to go through security control again.
Nairobi has a Sky Priority lane, which we were able to use. There was a short queue at the Security Checkpoint with almost no waiting time.
Since February they have installed new body scanner which makes the security check even easier.
Agents at security check were friendly, helpful and talkative.
Transiting in Nairobi was an easy thing and once through security we made our way to the Kenya Airways Lounge.
Nairobi Kenyatta has two Kenya Airways /Skyteam lounges. One is the Simba Lounge right after security and above the duty free area and the other one is the pride lounge right next to gate 17.
Simba Lounge is rather small and old. Pride Lounge is new, modern and has enough seating availabilities.
And wowww, we were blown away with the improvements they have done at the Pride Lounge.
The Lounge is super modern and is divided in many different areas.
The lounge offers a soft drink station and a coffee station as well as a all alcoholic bar. Softdrinks and alcoholic drinks were self service whilst the coffee bar was served.
There
are Baristas which prepare your coffee at your liking. The cappuccino was definitely coffee shop style.
They
also offered a buffet with hot and cold breakfast items. The items look super fresh and appealing. What has blown us away is the fresh egg cooking station. The serve you now freshly made
omelette, scrambled egg etc prepared at your liking from a chef.
All in all a great business class lounge experience and by far better than the Air France Lounge yesterday and many other lounges we have been previously.
Boarding started 50 minutes prior departure. This was due to the fact, that they boarded the passengers into a separated boarding area where you had to wait for the real boarding.
As the aircraft was on a remote stand, we boarded on a regular gate, had to walk down the stairs and then getting into a bus. Priority boarding wouldn't have made any sense.
Staff at
the gate was just doing their job but otherwise nothing special.
At the aircraft door we were greeted by the senior cabin crew member.
The crew was very friendly at the door and was very present in the cabin whilst boarding.
Very
soon after boarding they distributed the welcome drink, consisting of 4 different choices of drinks including champagne.
The seats were already equipped with a fluffy pillow and blankets were distributed inflight on request.
Once everyone was on board, the crew distributed the menu cards and shortly after they came to get your order.
Inflight:
The Kenya Airways business class on the Boeing 737-800 is a real business class on a short haul plane.
The aircraft has a total 16 business class seats in a 2-2 configuration.
The seats are very comfortable and offer enough privacy and space. Recline is around 120° and perfect for a nap.
After take off the cabin crew first came around and distributed some hot towels.
After
around 25 minutes into the flight they started with the hot breakfast service.
The main meal consisted of fresh fruits, a joghurt, bread and croissants with butter and jam and hot breakfast meal. They had the choice of 3 different hot meals.
The pesentation as well as the quality of the food was good.
The cabin crew on this flight was great too. They were present in the cabin, smiled and you could feel the passion and pride in what they do.
The senior crew member interacted and chatted to the guests.
Bathrooms were checked throughout the flight and always refilled. They were always clean.
There is no more inflight entertainment system installed in the seats.
You can now stream everything onto your device and watch it from there.
On the overhead screens the most famous film in aviation was shown throughout the entire flight: "The Map".
The route from Nairobi to Kenya offers a lit to see after departure. If you sit on the left hand side of the aircraft, you will get a very nice view of the Kilimanjaro.
If you
stream to your device, Kenya Airways has a good selection of movies, films and series.
The aircraft is not equipped with wifi.
Announcements on this flight were good as well. They were clear and understandable.
On the Ground:
Baggage delivery in Johannesburg was as always a good thing.
First bags arrived on the belt a little more than 20 minutes after arrival on stand and priority bags were delivered first.
And again... 1 of the bags arrived broken. The lock was completely torn away. The Kenya Airways Rep at the baggage belt told us we should go and see the lost and found counter, they would
replace the bag.
With only 2 hours to transit including to re-checkin and go through security we went to the desk.
The agent at the Lost & Found counter was super unfriendly. First he refused to take the case, then he just wanted to fill out a damage report but refused to exchange the bag.
Now running out of time I had no more time to do all the paper work. I have nothing in hand and I have to buy a new suitcase for my flight back home.
Our summary:
A very solid and good business class product on this short/middle haul flight.
It isn't the newest product anymore and inflight service isn't the most fanciest one but everything was good and solid.
Would the crew did an amazing job and we really enjoyed our stay on board.
After
these two flight experiences and the massive improvements we have seen, we would definitely recommend Kenya Airways for your travels.
