On the Ground:
As we were in transit in Nairobi and checked through, we only had to go through security control again.
Nairobi has a Sky Priority lane, which we were able to use. There was a short queue at the Security Checkpoint with almost no waiting time.
It was funny to see, that they operate the security control lines with two people only. 1 person is working to check the people going through the scanner and then there is one person which operates the hand luggage scanner. If he puts a bag into second screen and wants to check it, he will stop the baggage scanning process and checks the bag manually himself.
Agents at security check were friendly and helpful.
Transiting in Nairobi was an easy thing and once through security we made our way to the Kenya Airways Lounge.
Nairobi Kenyatta has two Kenya Airways /Skyteam lounges. One is the Simba Lounge right after security and above the duty free area and the other one is the pride lounge right next to gate 17.
Simba Lounge is rather small and old. Pride Lounge is new, modern and has enough seating availabilities.
We went to the Pride Lounge and that lounge is super modern and is divided in many different areas.
The lounge offers a soft drink and coffee station as well as a all alcoholic bar. Softdrinks and alcoholic drinks were self service whilst the coffee bar was served.
They also offered a buffet with hot and cold breakfast items.
All in all a good business class lounge experience.
Boarding started 1 hour!!! prior departure. This was due to the fact, that they boarded the passengers into a separated boarding area where you had to wait for the real boarding.
Priority boarding speech was made and priority boarding was conducted according procedures. They let you down to the aircraft 40 minutes prior departure.
Staff at the gate was just doing their job but otherwise nothing special.
At the aircraft door we were greeted by a cabin crew member.
The crew was very friendly at the door and was very present in the cabin whilst boarding.
Very soon after boarding they distributed the welcome drink, consisting of 4 different choices of drinks including champagne.
The seats were already equipped with headphones and the crew then passed with the menu cards.
On every seat there was also a fluffy pillow.
Inflight:
The Kenya Airways business class is a very nice and solid business class product. The 787-8 has a total of 30 business class seats in a 2-2-2 configuration in two small cabin sections.
The seats are very comfortable and offer enough privacy and space. Unfortunately they do not have sufficient storage space at all at the seat itself.
You have to stow everything either in the overhead bins or on the middle armrest between the seats.
All business class seats are fully lie flat and you have enough shoulder space as well as legroom space.
The seat worked perfectly fine on this flight.
After take off the cabin crew first came around and distributed some hot towels. Then they came to take the order for your main meal choice.
After around 25 minutes into the flight they started with the hot breakfast service.
The main meal consisted of fresh fruits, a joghurt, bread and croissants with butter and preserve and hot breakfast meal. They had the choice of 3 different hot meals.
Presentation of the food was good and the quality of the food was good too.
There was just a really strange thing. We arrived with the very same aircraft 2 hours ago from Amsterdam and we were offered coffee and tea with our breakfast. On this flight the crew made an announcement after take off that due to technical problems there will be no hot drinks on this flight. Strange... 🤔
The cabin crew on this flight was good. They were present in the cabin but unfortunately did not interact much with the passengers.
They did their job nice and professional but without passion and class.
A little bit more attention to details and interaction would be nice.

Bathrooms were checked throughout the flight and always refilled. They were always clean.

The inflight entertainment is good and the screens worked fine. They have a good size and resolution for business class. The screens are touch screens but you can also choose the handheld devices to navigate.
Kenya Airways has a good selection of movies, films and series. Unfortunately they only offer the Films etc in 4 languages.

The aircraft is not equipped with wifi.

Announcements on this flight were again on the poor side and again the flight deck announcement were better than the cabin crew announcements. They were way to silent and not understandable.

After the flight:

Baggage delivery in Johannesburg was as always a perfect thing. When we got to the baggage belt the first bags were already on the belt and priority bags were delivered first.

Our summary:
A very solid and good business class product on this short/middle haul flight.
It isn't the newest product anymore and inflight service isn't the most fanciest one but everything was good and solid.
Would the crew have interacted more with the guest it would have been even better.

But, I would reuse Kenya Airways any second again after this flight experience.
