Before we get to our review:
This property is our staycation / home away from home property and overall we have more than 80 nights at this hotel.
We love this property for its beautiful renovated rooms on the 4th & 5th floor, for one of the best pools and wellness areas of a central European Marriott Hotel and for some of the staff we know now for years. It feels like coming home.
And exactly because of our many nights at this property and because we know them in and out, we can review them in depth.
Since our last stay a few changes were done. Some to the better, some to the worse.
The hotel has finally got a new GM beginning of April. We do really really hope that long long overdue changes especially in the F&B are finally coming.
The old GM was inexistent and he simply ghosted around the hotel the last few years just to kill the time until his pension.
Already last time we thought that F&B would have reached the bottom but hey, they found a way to go even lower.
General Info:
The hotel is located in Dornbirn, Austria close to the A14 Highway in the industrial district of Dornbirn.
A few steps from the hotel there is a shopping center and the trade fair hall. In front of the hotel there is a local bus stop which brings you to Dornbirn and Bregenz.
Otherwise there is not a lot in walking vicinity except some fast food restaurants and a very good Italian restaurant. Other than these, there are no restaurants and bars around and you have to take the bus or your own car to go for dinner. And you definitely need to go for dinner as the hotel menu is a disgrace to be called a menu.
The Hotel has a total of 162 rooms and suites.
2 floors are completely renovated and new and the others should get a facelift soon.
The building is very modern from the outside and all public spaces such as the lobby, the bar/restaurant as well as the breakfast restaurant on the 11th floor are brand new and newly renovated.
In the public areas, the hotel is very modern, beautifully furnished and does not really compare with the Four Points standard. This hotel is on a top level for a Four Points by Sheraton Hotel.
It is acutally on the level of a Sheraton or Marriott Hotel.
Check-in:
Check-in was like coming home. We were greeted personally by the front office manager and also the operations manager came by to say hello.
We chatted together whilst an agent checked us in. We were given the keys and the whole process (well this was no process anymore) was done in a breeze.
Check-out:
Check-out was good. The agent was friendly and attentive, asked if everything was okay. He offered to print a preview of the invoice to check.
Staff at Frontdesk:
The Staff at the front desk in general is simply amazing. The front office team is very young but they do a great job.
All of them are always friendly and show some passion in hospitality.
If time permits, they are always up for a nice chat.
Marriott Bonvoy Titanium Recognition:
During check-in, the agent provided all the benefits which come along with our status.
We were asked, if we would like to have the points or the breakfast as welcome benefit an we were upgraded to one of the brand new executive rooms with balcony and mountain view.
On the first weekend, there was a nice surprise in the room, a new "bro" for paul, a nice card with a "guest rating" for us and some drink vouchers.
Throughout the other weekends we got some surprises in the room, some drinks and even an Easter bunny surprise.
Absolutely great guest relations and customer recognition.
Eligible nights and points:
The points, nights and revenues from all weekends were posted within 24hrs and correctly to our account.
Concierge:
The property has no concierge but the front desk helps as best as they can.
Room / Suite:
The brand new Executive Room with balcony and mountain view is simply stunning and wow!
The new Executive rooms is only a little bit smaller than the "older" Junior suites but you can't feel the difference. Vice versa, the room itself seems to have the same size and with the balcony it even feels much bigger.
The room has floor to ceiling windows with a nice view over the mountains.
The atmosphere in the new room is simply amazing. Wooden floor, brand new interior, amazing lamps and light concept and some colors which freshen up the whole room. It gives you immediately a warm and cozy feeling.
The room has a king size bed with a modern headboard, a desk and desk chair, a cozy colorful wing chair with a reading light and a modern wardrobe.
The balcony is huge and offers a sofa and a wing chair with a table, cozy cussions as well as a floor lamp.
The bed itself is very comfortable.
Bedding such as pillows and the duvet are comfortable.
Bathroom:
The new bathroom is also wow! Very modern with a huge and amazing rainforest shower. The water pressure is absolutely efficient.
It is very modern and also here an amazing light concept with modern lights and what I loved, finally a hotel in Europe who offers some night lights if you have to use the restroom. Very well done.
Housekeeping:
Over these stays, housekeeping did a good job.
The room was always clean, the bed was done more accurate than last time and they always replenished water.
WiFi :
WiFi remains a problem at this property.
There is a very bad connection in the room and in some angles there is no connection at all.
When connected to the WiFi, the speed and service is very slow and sometimes you even can't stream a YouTube video.

F&B outlets/ Lounge:

Gastro Counter:
Gastro Counter is the hotel's sole bar and restaurant. There is no other F&B outlet available for dinner or drinks.
The Bar opens at 17:00 and the restaurant at 18:00.
Unfortunately I have to say that it is a disgrace for a 4 star hotel to call this a. Restaurant and the hotel even managed to degrade their bar.

The interior is super nice and modern. There is a lot of wood and very bright colors to give the restaurant and bar a welcoming atmosphere. The hotel has integrated some amazing new features like wireless mobile charger in the bar.

Gastro Counter BAR:
Oh, where to start.
Let's start with the positive. The Staff was always super friendly, attentive and they took the time to chat with the customers.
As there is one staff member less, the bar and restaurant is basically run NY two people. If both are there, then it works.
We had the case during our stay, that one of the regular staff was on vacation and a temporary staff was there to help. Instead of training the additional staff what happened? The hotel had the brilliant idea of shortening the bar cart and only offering wine, beer and soft drinks on the menu for over a week. Cocktails, Moctails and other things were not available!
One weekend only one of the regular staff was there and the temporary member had no idea what he does and did not even know the table numbers or how to order food and drinks at the register. The regular staff had to do bar, orders, serving tables, clearing tables and so on that it ended in a disaster. People were waiting for more than 30 minutes just to get their drinks!!!
Gastro Counter Restaurant :
What the hotel currently offers as a food menu is a disgrace for such a property. This is already going on for half a year and nothing changes! Maybe the property and the owners should think about why they can't find staff???
F&B was always the "problem" of this property. We once thought that they made it when they had a new chef and an additional menu was introduced. But... Oh well, the chef is gone and the menu and quality of food is the worst in all the years and stays we visited the hotel.
The normal menu was reduced by minimum 1/3 of items only leaving fast food on the menu.
There is not a single healthy dish. Even the mixed salad was cut from the menu. If you stay longer than one night or if you don't like fast food you are forced to eat outside of the property.
I would like to mention again, that the old restaurant of the property pre renovations used to be TripAdvisor's Nummer one restaurant in the area for years and funny wise it still is number one.
The old GM and the Owners managed to distroy everything.
I pray that the new GM will try to change something and brings back a restaurant which offers a decent menu.

Currently we can not recommend to stay at the property for dinner.

Top View Breakfast restaurant:
The Top View breakfast restaurant is the breakfast venue of the property. It is located on the 11th floor and has a stunning panoramic 270° view.
Breakfast is very good and they have the most spectacular breakfast venue for a Four Points by Sheraton Hotel.
The restaurant up there feels more like on a cruise ship with the stunning view over the valley and the mountains.
The interior is simply stunning and wow.
Since a few month the breakfast restaurant has a new restaurant manager. She is super friendly, attentive and especially such a warm hearted person. When she greets you in the morning when you enter the restaurant, the sun is rising even if it is raining outside. The team even made us a huge surprise for Easter. We got an Easter lamb Paul which was super delicious.
She implement a few things and little things which were well noted by us. Especially little attention do details were introduced for example when replenishing bread or croissants then it is newly done with a tong and not just emptied out.
After the second weekend stay the manager went on vacation and two days later and with the super grumpy chef all attention to details were gone.
So the staff and especially the kitchen staff needs to learn consistency, consistency, consistency!
The buffet they offer is great. There is a bread and pastry station, fresh fruits and juices, cereals, hot dishes, cold cuts and cheese and many more.
During the week, you can choose from any hot egg dish you like and it is freshly prepared except for the convenience food scrambled eggs.
During weekends, only sunny side up eggs are prepared freshly, no omeletts are being offered.
The hotel now started to sell Weekend Brunch to outside guests. We'll dear Four Points by Sheraton Panoramahaus Dornbirn do you think that people coming from outside for brunch do not want to have omelettes?
The hotel has 3!!!!!! Staff members in the Kitchen for breakfast.
Over the last stays we observed the chef. He was often standing there for 25 minutes without doing anything.
In addition one of the Chefs should not be there in a show kitchen as he is super grumpy and unfriendly.
Executive Lounge:
There is no lounge.
Pool / Spa / Gym:
Still the biggest advantage of this property.
I have never seen a Four Points by Sheraton with such a huge pool/wellness area. The hotel offers a huge indoor pool, a heated outdoor pool, lots of saunas and steambath, hammam as well as a relaxation area free of charge for all hotel guests. It was simply stunning!
The hotel also has a spa. The treatments aren't cheap but quality wise very good.
Even they reduced the size of the gym massively with the renovation (used to be an entire floor which is now new rooms) they still offer a great gym for a Four Points by Sheraton Hotel.
Social Media:
Social media has improved tremendously. The hotel posts on Facebook and Instagram and also interacts with customers who post.
Summary:
All in all we had some great weekends at the property because of the stunning room, the amazing staff we know and love and because of the pool/Wellness area which is one of the best in the Region.
Breakfast is a real highlight as well and it is one of the best we have seen in a four points worldwide.
F&B at the gastro counter is a disgrace for this property and became sort of inexistent. The current menu offered at the restaurant and the reduced bar menu are going to far!
The hotel kills its F&B themselves.
