Back at this property again.

The Hotel is located edging the districts Mitte and Wedding. The train and metro station Gesundbrunnen is only a 3-4 minutes walk away. Next to the hotel is the Humboldthain park.
They say the area of Gesundbrunnen is an upcoming area in Berlin. Unfortunately at the moment it is different and it isn't a very clean or pleasant district.

Β

After 2 month we are back at the AC Berlin Humboldthain again.
Unfortunately the hotel could not keep the high standards and has actually dropped dramatically in service. I haven't seen a hotel going downhill that fast.

Β

The check in was really good and friendly. The staff still recognized us from our previous stay. The agent interacted with the guests and was helpful. We were upgraded to an executive room. No question about the benefit I would like to choose and no recognition from the agent about the Marriott Bonvoy status.

Well, let's say we tried to check out. Due to no staff at the property we were standing at the unmanned frontdesk for almost 10 minutes. Finally we found an employee who called around to get a staff member. We could check out after a waiting time of 13minutes.
But then the agent was nice and friendly.

Β

The front desk staff (except one new lady) was super friendly and helpful throughout the entire stay. They always interacted with guest or had some words to chitchat.
The new lady seems not to like her job as no interaction and no smiles. Once when going to the frontdesk she even got quite rude.

Β

The executive room was amazing. The room was comfortable and has a great atmosphere. Lots of natural lights and what I liked most was the huge amount of wood, the stunning wooden floor and everything paired with some stylish, modern and classy accents in forniture.
I still love the stunning wooden floor but after a few month you can see that it isn't the best floor for a hotel. You can see every stain and with the changes of humidity and now heating the wooden planks start to rise and form waves.

The Hotel has the AC Lounge. It serves as Restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinner on one side and as Lounge and Bar on the other side.

Staff at the AC Lounge is still simply amazing, friendly and helpful. They still work as a great team.

Breakfast was served at the AC Lounge as well. The buffet was good and the quality and quantity was nice.
The buffet is still the same 3 cold cuts, the same 3 type of cheese etc.
Breakfast is decreasing as some Danish, pastry and bread has been cut.

The bar / restaurant has the biggest cost cuts and issues. The complete no go and killer for my future stays is the closure of the AC lounge until 18:00 LT!

I don’t care if a business hotel is not offering lunch because people are away, but...

The opening of the AC lounge and the restaurant only at 18:00 is way to late. We aren’t in Spain where you eat dinner at 21:00. We are in a northern country and people go for dinner between 17:00 – 19:00 LT.

The Hotel hasn't thought that people and their guests on a Friday afternoon after work (most people stop working at 15:00) might want to come back to the hotel and have a drink?

They thought that their weekend tourists on a Saturday after strolling in the city would like to have a drink, tea or coffee?

People on Sunday who need to work on Monday do not like to leave the Hotel?

If I am thirsty during the afternoon, thanks for sending me to the grocery next door as you do not even have a market (like moxy, 4points, courtyard) do buy something.

No peanuts at the bar for cocktails, no straws at the bar etc etc.

Unheated ground floor that people need to sit with blankets or jackets at breakfast.

Β

On top I do have great pity with the remaining staff as they are working day and night most probably to cover for the vacant positions due to the cost cuttings.

They do an amazing job in customer service, but it does not go unnoticed that the hotel has a staffing problem.
You see these poor guys working from 6 AM in the morning until 11PM at night when you leave the bar.....

This owner and franchise company goes way to far. It is dramatic if you as a guest start noticing such changes.

With these cost cutting measures, you are killing yourselves and the AC brand as for sure business travelers and elite members will not return.

Also housekeeping lost dramatically. Basically because the hotel also cut cost here.
Rooms are not cleaned until the afternoon. It happened now twice that when returning at around 16:30 the room wasn't cleaned.
It happened twice that housekeeping did not knock but just opened the door. Once even with the do not disturb outside.

Β

This hotel is currently kept alive thanks to around 6-7 employees who are working their as..es off and are doing an amazing customer service. The hotel itself has already saved it to death. If these employees are going to leave.... then good night AC Berlin Humboldthain! And it is only a matter of time.

For us, we will be looking for another property the next time we are in Berlin as there is other and many choices.
