Paulβs Hotel Review for the
Details:
Duration of stay: 3 nights / City Trip
General Info:
The hotel is located in Sindelfingen which is about a 20 minutes drive from Stuttgart without any traffic. With traffic it can easily double as Stuttgart is politically ultra green and does
everything to keep away individual traffic.
So the Name Stuttgart Marriott Hotel Sindelfingen can be very misleading as the hotel is definitely not located in Stuttgart and Sindelfingen is an own town.
Sindelfingen itself is a typical town in Germany with its charm. It has a pedestrian zone in the city and lots of shopping possibilities are around the hotel as well.
The Hotel itself is located over 7 floors with 258 rooms with ONLY 2 suites.
I have never seen a regular Marriott Hotel that size with only so few suites.
The hotel was renovated around 3 years ago so it still looks very modern and appealing.
Check-in:
The check-in was good, and the agent was friendly and helpful. She did a great job and you felt very welcome.
No Marriott Bonvoy recognition at all at check-in.
No words about anything, except if I would like to have the points as benefit.
Check-out:
Check-out was absolutely fantastic. The agent interacted with the guests, took care of questions, and made sure everything was okay
She really took the time to chat and didn't make you feel like a number.
Staff at the front desk otherwise is super friendly and helpful. They always interacted when passing by the frontdesk and always took the time to talk or make some jokes. Frontdesk is an
amazing team and really takes great care of the customers.
We had quite a few hiccups during our stay and the front office team always tried to help and solve the issue.
Marriott Bonvoy Ambassador Elite recognition:
Thanks to our Ambassador Status with the Marriott Bonvoy program, we were upgraded from a Deluxe King to an Executive King.
As said, no recognition at all at check-in despite the welcome points.
There was a nice handwritten note in the room with a chocolate bar as welcome gift.
Eligible nights and points were only posted 1 week after our stay.
Room / Suite:
The room was very nice and big in size. It even offers a small couch and there is enough space.
The interior looks modern and is very well maintained.
The bed unfortunately was a different story. I think that this hotel is not providing Marriott mattresses. We had exactly the same problems with the bed like the ones 2 years ago when staying
at this property.
The mattress was super terrible and completely worn out. On one side you banked constantly on one side whilst sleeping whilst the other side was so worn out that you slept like a banana.
We gave the feedback after the first night and the housekeeping team tried to help. They brought a new topper out of foam instead of feathers and this already helped a lot. I was given the
open to see another room but the mattress had exactly the same issues.
Otherwise bedding especially the duvet was super comfy.
Bathroom:
The bathroom is rather on the small size but it is modern and new. There is a big walk in shower and the water pressure was okay.
Housekeeping:
There is still no daily housekeeping at this property. Rooms are only cleaned every 3 days.
So if you need some amenities or additional towels you can get them from the front desk. They also tell you if really necessary you could ask via frontdesk to get housekeeping more often.
The Local
The Local restaurant and bar is the main restaurant and bar on the ground floor in the lobby.
The restaurant has a very welcoming atmosphere and it is open all day for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
The food was very delicious and the drinks from the bar are also very good.
As said, breakfast would also be served at this restaurant.
Breakfast was a complete disaster. It was actually the worst breakfast I've ever had in all these years in a Marriott property.
The hotel still offers breakfast in pandemic mode. All other hotels are back to normal in Europe and also here in Stuttgart except this Marriott hotel.
You have to order your breakfast the day before with filling out an order form. Then breakfast will be served on a tray. Well, that is what they say....
In fact you order with the form, have to give them a pick up time (15min exact) and then you have to pick up the tray at a pick up station.
The tray looks worse than in a canteen and it is so not Marriott standart like.
The food was also not really good. Hot items get cold. The Joghurt and BirchermΓΌesli was warm and the pineapple in the glass was already brown.
Honestly this is not a hotel breakfast and I recommend that if you like hotel breakfasts stay away from this hotel.
The Steakhouse:
The Steakhouse is the specialty restaurant of the property. We had dinner there last time we stayed here and were looking forward to another dinner.
The menu is a little bit smaller than it used to be but the food is still super delicious.
Executive Lounge:
The "realβ lounge on the 7th floor is currently closed. Due to a law in Germany during the pandemic you need to have a certain amount of space per person. This would be impossible in the real
lounge or you would be limited to very few people at the time.
The hotel offers the lounge in the lobby behind the local restaurant. You can have softdrinks, coffee and tea all day long and from 17:30 until 21:30 the hotel is offering the evening drinks
and dinner. Dinner is actually a real buffet dinner with salads, cold items, hot dishes as well as dessert. In addition to the softdrinks you have the choice of wine, beer and some limited
liquor.
Staff at all restaurants and at the bar was simply amazing. They did a great job with interacting with the guests and offered an an excellent customer service.
Breakfast staff was unfortunately the weakest link of F&B staff. They were not really interested but who can blame them with the current disgusting service they offer.
Pool / Spa:
The hotel offers a small but nice pool on the ground floor, right above the gym. There is also a sauna and a small relaxing area.
The water temperature of the pool unfortunately has quite big differences in temperature. Whilst one night it was 31 degrees Celsius the next day it was down to a chilly 26. But all in all a
nice area to relax.
Social Media:
No interaction at all from the Hotel. They do post regularly on Facebook and Instagram but no interaction with followers or on comments.
Summary:
All in all, a very difficult stay to rate as the hardware of the hotel as well as the software are good.
Unfortunately they have some current procedures and operational processes in place that we, based on our current stay, would not recommend to stay at Stuttgart Marriott Hotel Sindelfingen.
The hotel (hardware is very nice) it is newly renovated and has a great atmosphere. All restaurants and bars offer high quality and a fantastic service. Also the lounge is open and they serve
a buffet every night for dinner.
Breakfast is a disgrace and disaster. It is actually unworthy to call it breakfast in a Marriott hotel. All other Marriott Properties in Stuttgart are back to normal breakfast with buffet
only here you get a below YMCA Hospital style breakfast.
The bed on the first night was an unpleasant experience. Mattresses completely worn out. Housekeeping took good care of it and changed the topper from a soft duvet one to a firm one which
made it much more comfortable.
I am now an elite member for more than 8 years. As everywhere they charged a deposit plus some extra for credentials on my credit card. This is absolutely fine and as per procedures.
What is new to me, that they charged every night an additional block from my credit card because I would have reached the deposit. I can understand that but my problem now is that whilst
checking out they charge the full amount on one payment and do not use the blocks. That means I have now 1058 Euro blocked on my credit card for nothing.
Whilst asking why they do charge every night an additional block they just said it is procedure.
Well it wasn't procedure the last time we stayed here and where we spent around the same amount and it isn't procedure in all the other Marriott International Properties I have stayed the
last 8 years.
No daily housekeeping at this property. Also here the other properties offer daily housekeeping again.
I do really think and believe that this property is keeping the pandemic measures as long as possible to save money on customers backs.
The rates aren't lower than pre pandemic but the service definitely is much lower than pre pandemic.
To bad that as a customer you have the feeling that they are saving money on your back.
Would I recommend to stay at this property?
Not with the current set up and no real breakfast served. The other properties offer currently a better service in Stuttgart.
The Le MΓ©ridien for example where we stayed 3 month ago was back to normal already back then.
