Paulβs Hotel Review for
Details:
Duration of stay: 2 nights / Weekend city trip
General Info:
The hotel is located at Arabella Park which is a little outside of the city of Munich.
The metro station Arabella Park and the Tram Station "Effnerplatzβ are just a few steps away from the hotel. Both lines (metro and tram) are bringing you downtown Munich to the Stachus.
The tram takes around 15-20 minutes but you see the entire suburbs and the metro takes around 8-10 minutes.
There is not lots around the hotel which could be reached by foot except some little restaurants.
The Hotel itself has 23 floors with a total of whopping 627 rooms and suites. The property is a hulk, huge and massive.
The public areas have just been recently renovated and look awesome. The rooms are still in good shape and well taken care of.
Check-in:
The check-in was really good.
The agent was super welcoming, very friendly, kept chatting throughout the entire process and made you feel welcome.
He gave us all the information about the property (bar, restaurant location and opening hours, spa gym information, lounge location, pool etc etc).
Check-out:
Check-out was good too. The agent interacted with us, made sure we had a great stay and asked for feedbacks.
Staff at the front desk was very nice and welcoming.
Marriott Bonvoy Ambassador Recognition:
During check-in, we were thanked for being an Ambassador Elite Member. We were upgraded from a deluxe king room to a Westin Suite. As a welcome gift we could choose between the welcome points
or a local gift.
As the Hotel has a Lounge which is closed for breakfast, we were entitled for breakfast at the main restaurant which is the breakfast venue of the property.
The lounge is open all day for softdrinks and Coffee/tea and a happy hour from 17:00-23:00.
There was no welcome note or little amenity in the room when we arrived.
This is sad as otherwise all benefits would have been taken care of
Β
All in all an okay recognition but no personal touch at all. You are simply a room number
Eligible nights and points.
The eligible nights and points were posted to the account 24 hours after the stay.
Β
Concierge:
The concierge desk was manned during day.
The concierge was very friendly and helpful. We needed some assistance with the public transport and he could provide them without looking anything up.
Room / Suite:
The Westin Suite we got upgraded to was really nice. The Suite is quite big (60sqm) in size.
The living room has a couch and two chairs, a couch table, sideboard and a TV as well as a desk. There is a half bathroom attached to it. The bedroom is big with a king-size bed, a walk in
wardrobe and a big TV.
Attached is a big bathroom with separate walk in shower, a big bathtub as well as a separate toilet.
Both rooms have huge windows over the entire length of the room which can be opened.
The interior looks like all timeless Westin rooms with lots of wood and decent colours. The atmosphere of the suite is very good.
Luckily we were able to open the windows as the air-conditioning didn't work at all. When asking at the frontdesk they informed us that unfortunately the aircon wasn't running yet. The first
day we had easily 26C in the room. Unfortunately it was really noisy from the streets outside when you opened the windows.
WiFi worked perfectly fine throughout the entire property but it is super slow. You actually can't work with it if you have to work with bigger files.
The bed was simply great and very comfortable, a Westin heavenly bed. The bedding such as pillows and duvet were super comfy. We had some great and comfortable sleep.
Bathroom:
The bathroom is big in size with a big bathtub as well as a huge walk in shower. It is timekess modern and bright. The toilet is in a separate room.
The shower works fine and the water pressure is mediocre as well.
Housekeeping:
Housekeeping does a fantastic job. The rooms are cleaned daily and are impeccable clean. The rooms are well looked after
The Drop Bar and Restaurant
The Drop Bar and Restaurant is the hotel bar and restaurant next to the lobby. It was recently renovated and the design is beautiful, bright and has a warm atmosphere. Lots of wood, lots of
plants and green. A very modern look.
Drinks at the bar were good. Staff was friendly and ok but nothing out of the ordinary.
Greenhouse Restaurant
The Greenhouse restaurant is the breakfast venue at this property.
The breakfast buffet has a great size and you can find everything you want for your breakfast. There is a bread and pastry station, fresh fruits and juices, cereals, hot dishes as well as a
live egg cooking station.
The quality of food was good and everything was freshly prepared.
It is back to a self service buffet and no more covid restrictions apply.
During the first morning the breakfast was simply overcrowded and full. The staff is friendly and welcoming. The breakfast host was outstanding and she took the time to chat and take care of
the guests.
Paulaners
The Paulaners Wirtshaus and Beer garden is the only other F&B outlet.
They serve Bavarian cuisine in a typical ambiance. We loved this outlet and had twice dinner there. The food was very delicious and nicely prepared. Staff was very attentive and super
friendly.
During the warmer month you can enjoy the beer garden outside under beautiful chestnut trees.
There is no need to go outside to another beer garden as they really offer an authentic beer garden in house.
Executive Lounge:
The lounge of this property is located on the 23rd/top floor of the property. You have ab amazing view over the city of Munich.
The lounge is newly renovated and it has a great atmosphere and ambience. Staff was super friendly and very attentive.
Coffee / tea and softdrinks are available the entire day. From 17:00 bis 23:00 they serve drinks and cocktails in the Lounge as well as snacks. As of 18:00 they also serve dinner. The buffet
is simply amazing for a lounge. There were different hot meals every night. A huge and absolutely fantastic salad buffet, fresh cheese as well as a big dessert buffet.
Pool / Spa / Gym:
The hotel offers a massive and beautiful pool and spa area.
It is so sad to see that it is completely outsourced to ISARspa. Why is such a big Westin Grand not offering its famous own heavenly spa?
The treatments are rather on the expensive side with 99β¬ for any 60min treatment and 139β¬ for any 90min treatment.
I don't know why the Hotels don't recognize that I will not book a treatment at an overpriced outsourced spa when I don't get the points and revenue in return on my Bonvoy account. I can use
any other spa instead outside of the property which is cheaper.
Would it be a heavenly spa, I would get the points and revenue to my account and I would think about staying inhouse.
Social Media:
Social media seems to be unknown to this property. They do post and repost some things on Instagram and Facebook but no interaction at all.
Summary:
It was a good stay at the Westin Grand in Munich.
You have to know that you will be part of a big well run machinery. They can't do different with 627 rooms and suites. There is no space for personal interaction, personal touch to your stay
or anything individual.
They honor your Ambassador Elite status but also here no personal touch.
Everything run smoothly and the staff was nice but you are simply a number.
If you are staying for business and are just looking for a well run hotel with a nice lounge than we can definitely recommend the property. If you are looking for a stay where you get
pampered and the personal touch matters to you, then this is definitely the wrong place as you are simply a room number.
