General Info:
The hotel is located just a few steps north from the central district and almost next to the main train station.
A few steps from the hotel there is also a bus and tram station if you need local public transport.
Thanks to its great location you can reach everything by foot. Local attractions, restaurants, bars as well as the zoo are only a few steps away.
The location is simply perfect for a city trip or weekend get away.
The Hotel itself has 27 floors of which 17 floors are used for guest rooms.
The property has a total of 436 rooms including suites.

Even the building still has its former German Democratic Republic flair from the outside, the Hotel seems to have gone through renovation a few few years ago, as our Suite was in absolute great shape and modern. Also all public spaces such as Bar, Lobby and restaurants look renovated.

Check-in:
The check-in was fantastic. The agent was super welcoming and greeted us with a smile when we entered the door. That melted the ice immediately and we felt very welcome from second one. The check-in procedure itself was very friendly, professional and the agent kept chatting with us all the time.
She gave us all the information about the property (bar, restaurant location and opening hours, spa gym, pool information etc).
Check-out:
Check-out was good. The agent interacted with us and asked for a feedback about our stay.
Unfortunately the final invoice was never shown. She just said the final amount and charged the credit card. Only then she printed and handed over the bill. No chance to check the bill before payment if you aren't explicit asking for it.

Staff at the front desk really depends with whom you are talking to. It can be very pleasant, friendly and helpful and others are super grumpy, stressed and unfriendly.

Marriott Bonvoy Ambassador Recognition:
During check-in, the agent acknowledged our status and she even gave us a voucher for a drink at the bar as we arrived after the daily "blue hour" (the Westin Leipzig calls the Elite Happy Hour the blue hour). As we used our Suite Night Awards for this stay (they would have expired End of June) we were upgraded to a Deluxe Suite.
As a welcome gift we could choose between the welcome points or breakfast and we went for the breakfast.
The Westin Leipzig has no Lounge but as said all Elite Members are invited to a "blue hourβ€œ in the Shinto Bar & Lounge. Drinks and a snack are served during this hour.
The welcome amenities in the room were one of the best during the last couple of years.
A very nice welcome note from the GM was in the room with a bottle of bubbles, a bottle of water, a fresh fruit platter some pralines and as a gift to take home two different jams. Absolutely stunning and a huge wow effect.

All in all a fantastic recognition as Ambassador Elite Member.

Eligible nights and points.
The eligible nights as well as the points and qualifying spend was posted 24 hours after our stay. Everything was posted correctly and as per invoice..
Concierge:
There was no concierge but the front desk helped where they could and as best as they could.
Room / Suite:
The Deluxe Suite we got upgraded thanks to our Suite Night Awards was simply awesome. The Suite is very big with 56sqm in size.
The living room has a big couch and a lounge chair, a couch table, sideboard and a TV as well as a big desk. From the living room you can go out onto your private balcony. Being on the 21st floor the balcony had an awesome view over the city and we sat there every night before going to bed just to watch what is going on.
Also the bedroom has a decent size and is on the back side of the hotel on the quieter side.
The bathroom is in between the living and bedroom.
The interior is on the modern side but you can still notice a more modern Westin style.
What I loved most was the wooden floor and the modern touch with a cosy atmosphere. Every time we entered the room we felt at home. There was such a warm atmosphere, we just loved it.
On the living room side there is a big window front and the balcony door which allows a lot of natural lights to come on. There are also big windows in the bedroom but with a cosier feeling.
You can open the windows in both rooms.
The air conditioning can not be controlled by temperature. You can simply choose between warm and cold.
The room was always cooled down to a nice temperature when you places the control to cold and as said the suite had a fantastic room climate and atmosphere.

The bed was simply great and very comfortable, a Westin heavenly bed. The bedding such as pillows and duvet were super comfy. We had some great and comfortable nights.

Wi-Fi:
WiFi was super slow in the room and regular data roaming was much faster.
In addition the connectivity and quality of the Wi-Fi in the bedroom was a disaster.
Bathroom:
The bathroom is in between the living and bedroom. It is a little odd in terms of the layout but it is super modern and bright. You have a separate toilet with a think and then there is a double vanity but one behind each other (mirrored). Both sides are connected with a shower and on the backside there is also a bathtub. The shower was simply awesome and is equipped with a ceiling mounted rainshower head.
Except the toilet, which is an own closed room, there are only glasswalls separating the bathroom from the bedroom. The designer at least had his/her thoughts about that and for every glasswall there is a curtain for your privacy. Interior wise the bathroom is modern with dark tiles, lots of glass and some wooden accents. A very modern bathroom.
Housekeeping:
Housekeeping is fully outsourced and you can feel the drop in quality.
The room is clean but there is no attention to details. For example they left used and empty tableware from the roomservice in the room for two consecutive days. Showergel wasn't refilled etc. Housekeeping could need some additional training in aspects of attention to details.
We had the situation 3 times when passing by housekeeping staff and greeting them in German and English that there was no response from them as they were unable to understand both languages.
F&B outlets/ Lounge:
Not a single F&B outlet is open during the day. You can buy drinks at the Marketplace in the lobby or outside at Edeka at the grocery store.
Shinto Bar & Lounge
The Shinto Bar & Lounge is the hotel's lobby bar and restaurant. Unfortunately it only opens at 17:00. Currently this is the only opened F&B outlet owned by the Hotel.
The interior is on the modern side, with dark colors and wooden elements.
Drinks at the bar were very good. Staff was always super friendly, attentive and they took the time to chat with the customers.
The food menu is on the short side and only a few options are available. We had dinner there and the quality was awesome and the food was super delicious.
The Shinto Bar & Lounge also has an outdoor space. The space is very small, almost always full but unfortunately it would need some more love and new furniture. Currently it has the charm of an old "Brauhaus" and is far away from a Westin Style F&B outlet.
It would take a very little effort to make this place so much more cosy and comfortable.
Staff at the Shinto Bar was simply amazing.
Restaurant Gusto
The restaurant Gusto would be the main F&B outlet of the Hotel for dinner but it is currently closed.
Restaurant BrΓΌhl
The restaurant BrΓΌhl is the breakfast venue of the property.
The breakfast buffet has a great size and you can find everything you want for breakfast. There is a bread and pastry station, fresh fruits and juices, cereals, hot dishes, cold cuts and cheese and many more.
The staff is offering actively hot egg dishes which are prepared in the kitchen and served at the table.
The quality of food was top and everything was freshly prepared. There were always two chefs present which filled up the buffet and checked that everything looks nice.
The host staff which are bringing you to the table are useless. They couldn't greet you or say good morning. All they did was asking for your room number and pointed or sometimes escorted you to a table. The waiting staff vice versa was simply phenomenal. They were super friendly and welcoming. They took the time for a short chat and interacted with the guests. Even when the breakfast venue was full they passed by several times and asked if everything was okay.
Talking about full, the place can get really busy but this Westin has an overflow area and if a certain occupancy is reached they open the overflow area with a complete second breakfast buffet. So yes it can get full but it never felt overcrowded. Very well done with the overflow and especially a second buffet.
Gourmet Restaurant Falco
The gourmet restaurant Falco is located on the 27th and so on the top floor of the hotel. The restaurant has a two star Michelin rating. It is on the expensive side.
They have a special offer "der! Tischβ€œ where you share a huge bartable for 12 people with other guests. A 4 course meal including water costs 99€ without alcoholic drinks. Make sure to make a reservation as it is very well booked in advance. Otherwise a 3 course meal at a table starts at 160€ per person. Unfortunately this Outlet is outsourced and does not belong to the hotel. So no points and eligible spend.
Executive Lounge:
The Westin Leipzig unfortunately has no lounge. They do offer a "blue hour" (their name for happy hour) in the Shinto Bar & Lounge from 18:00-19:00 for all elite members.
You can choose your drinks and they offer a very nice hot snack.
Great option and well appreciated.
Pool / Spa / Gym:
This was a huge disappointment at this property. It seems no one from the Hotel is really responsible or in charge for this place. It is clean but noone looks after it. It is desperately in need of a renovation and needs more attention and care.
The hotel has a gym area which is located on the 4th floor and it is free of charge.
The pool, sauna, infrared cabins as well as a relaxation room is also located on the 4th floor and belongs completely to the hotel.
A huge disappointment is that the hotel charges 5€ per person to use the hotel owned pool!
In addition the pool, sauna and relaxation area is from the 70's. It is an old dark dungeon. Nothing relaxing or pleasant to stay. It is a disgrace for a Westin to charge 5€ for such an offering. In addition, this is the first Marriott Property where we had to pay to use a hotel pool.
I would definitely not recommend it.
The Hotel also offers spa treatments and services and in every room is a nice booklet.
Prices are on the higher end with 60 minutes massage for 90€.
When you look at the booklet more closely you can see that the hotel recently outsourced the spa. There is a sticker on the booklet covering the Heavenly Spa with a new outsourced company.
I don't know why the Hotels don't recognize that people or elite members will not book a treatment at an overpriced outsourced spa when you don't get the points and revenue in return on the Bonvoy account.
Hotels in Europe should take an example from Asian properties where Elite Members get a discount at the spa to keep them inhouse.
With such outsourced spas and no points or qualifying spend I can and will use any other spa outside of the hotel which is cheaper.
Would it be a heavenly spa, I would get the points and revenue to my account and I would stay inhouse even it is more expensive.
Social Media:
Social media seems to be unknown to this property. They do post and repost some things on Instagram and Facebook but no interaction at all.
Summary:
All in all it was a good stay at the Westin Leipzig.
The suite was awesome and so was the check-in and breakfast. 90% of the own staff did an awesome and wonderful job.
As a summary you can say: everything which is own staff (inhouse) was really good and pleasant.
Don't use the pool as it is never worth the price of 5€ per person if the hotel isn't going to renovate that area.
Everything outsourced was a disappointment. From house keeping doing a minimum and not looking at details to a let down at the outsourced spa.

This property would have such a great potential if they would either control / train the outsourced departments better or even take them inhouse. At least the spa should be a heavenly spa again.

We would recommend this property for a trip to Leipzig as it has a great location, great rooms and own staff.
