The hotel is located a little outside of central downtown Athens. Before booking, I have read in some Marriott Bonvoy forums that the Hotel has the least downtown location of all Marriott properties. Nevertheless, I did choose the Marriott Athens as it has some great advantages I am going to explain.
The neighbourhood of the Hotel is absolutely amazing. You have lots and lots of Restaurants and authentic Greek taverns in walking vicinity without paying the tourist prices. There are bars and coffee shops around where you get the real Greek feeling. The Stavros Niarchos Park and the Opera House is just across the street, where you have a great option for nice walks. We reached the sea and the closest beach by 25 minutes walking.
All the above was much more important to us than to have a central down town location.
The hotel is only around 8 minutes away from the Acropolis and Plaka old town by Taxi. The Taxi costs around 7-8 Euro per ride. We did take Uber on the return and paid around 5 Euros.
Check-in was good and the agent was friendly. Status of Marriott Bonvoy was immediately recognized and all perks received.
Check-out was very good with great interaction.
The agents are always friendly and greet when you walk by. Some do great interaction with the guests.
The General Manager was omni present all days and everywhere. He did chat to all the guests and made sure everyone felt comfortable and got the outmost service at the property.

The Hotel itself is in good shape and has a nice atmosphere. It was renovated a couple of month ago. The interior is timeless Marriott with some really nice dΓ©cor items. The colours they choose is brown, beige. It is all earth colored with some other colors to put some accent.

The Hotel has a Restaurant (the great hall) which has also a patio outside in the courtyard and the Lobby Bar on the ground floor and a restaurant (e&o Athens, Asian Cuisine) and bar on the rooftop.
The pool is located on the rooftop as well. All other amenities (Spa, Gym etc) are located in the basement.
Thanks to our status the hotel upgraded us pre arrival into a junior suite. The room was at the top room floor of the hotel.
The room felt home at the first second. Once again, we had stunning panoramic windows with view over Athens and the mountains, The balcony was huge and you could see the sea looking sideways.
The interior is stylish timeless classic Marriott. Most travelers will know what I mean, Nothing to fancy or chic. Just a great room with wooden floors, nice dΓ©cor elements otherwise completely timeless in colors.
The Junior Suite had a living area part with a big sofa and chair and a sleeping room with the king size bed. A huge balcony and a stunning big bathroom. The bathroom was in dark marble. Great in size and a fantastic shower with rain shower head mounted at the ceiling.

The housekeeping was very limited due to COVID. No cleaning of the room except you ask for it at the front desk. Cleaning would only take place adhoc and guests need to be out of the room.
There is no replenishment of water, shower gel or shampoo. Everything needs to be requested by the front desk. Cleanliness of the property and room was good.
The property and all staff adhere to all COVID rules and guidelines.
β€œThe great hall” restaurant is where breakfast is served. Breakfast was simply amazing. No short cuts due to COVID. The Hotel still offers the full buffet. All food is placed behind Plexiglas and you will be served from the staff. No self service.
It was absolutely amazing to see the buffet and it really felt like a real hotel breakfast again.
β€œThe great hall” restaurant is also the main restaurant for lunch and dinner. It would serve Mediterranean dishes.
We had twice lunch on the patio. The menu is reduced significantly to basic items such as Salads, Club sandwich and pasta, etc.
The food was delicious and fresh. Unfortunately, they keep the same menu for dinner. So there is no big option to get some real nice dinner at this outlet. You have seen the menu after 2 days.
The Lobby bar serves drinks and the same snacks as β€œthe great hall” all day.
The β€œe&o Athens" restaurant on the rooftop serves Asian food. We had dinner up there with a stunning view over Athens and the Opera.
The food itself was absolutely great and delicious. HavenΒ΄t had so delicious Asian food outside of Asia often.
The β€œe&o Bar” also serves great drinks and you can sit outside on the rooftop. Drinks were much better up there than at the lobby bar.
The interior of all F&B outlets is beautiful and on a modern industrial chic style.
F&B staff at all outlets are simply great. They do love what they do and you can feel it. They interact with all customers and take the time to talk to each other.
The hotel has an M lounge for elite members and entitled guests on the ground floor right next to the front desk. Unfortunately, due to COVID the lounge isn’t to recommend for the moment. During day only soft drinks are served. There is a happy hour taking place from 17:00 – 19:00 where you get complimentary wine and beer as well as some snacks served on a plate,
The lounge itself isn’t really cozy or a place where you would like to spend a lot of time. It is rather dark and cramped with furniture. No dΓ©cor elements or nice touches.
The pool on the rooftop is very nice and gives you a great change in summer and is a nice retreat.
The Spa in the basement is rather small but we had one of the best massages in a long time. Staff at the spa is very pleasant and hearty.
The hotel offers/organizes a great limo service to and from the airport or wherever you want to go
All in all a great stay at this hotel.
The property is rather new and gives you a homey feeling thanks to its furnishing and staff. Staff is super pleasant and accommodating at all F&B outlets. Frontdesk is nice and friendly, Always helpful but do not interact as much with the customers as other departments.
We can definitely recommend the Athens Marriott Hotel. Should this pandemic be over I can imagine that their service will even increase and that this property will be top notch.
Should we come back to Athens we will definitely stay again at this property.
