Paul‘s Hotel Review for the
Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit, A Luxury Collection Hotel, Bangkok
Details:
Duration of stay: 2 nights / Vacation
First of all, we didn't plan to stay at the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit.
As we had massive issues at the planned hotel, we simply rebooked and ended up at his property.
The hotel is located right next to the Asok SkyTrain station. It even has a passway from the main lobby directly to the station. This makes it quite easy to explore Bangkok with the Public
transport system.
The property is a old grand lady and a long standing hotel in Bangkok.
All hotel rooms and suites are exquisitely decorated with local materials such as teak wood, Thai silk and smooth marble. The hotel offers a total of 420 rooms and. suites. Most of the rooms
have either an amazing view of Lake Ratchada or the Bangkok city skyline.
The decor and the entire property is rather old and classy.
Check-in:
The check in was simply amazing.
We booked the room around 30 minutes prior our arrival and the hotel was already prepared.
The agent was very professional, super friendly and helpful.
Marriott Bonvoy Ambassador Elite recognition:
Thanks to our Ambassador Elite status we were upgraded to a beautiful and cosy 1 Bedroom Suite overlooking Lake Ratchada.
Normal recognition at check in, thanking for the loyalty and explaining the current offers for Ambassadors.
Breakfast is offered at the regular restaurant at the moment as the lounge is still closed. In addition you also get the 1000 welcome points.
There is a cocktail happy hour at the living room bar from 17:00-19:00.
Some fresh fruits were awaiting us in the room and there was plenty of water.
With the suite we received we would be entitled to a butler and free coffee, tea, juice and water 24/7.
Check-out:
Check out was was absolutely amazing and of the best I've had in a very very long time.
The agent was super friendly, communicating and making sure everything was fine. She asked questions interacted the whole time with us.
When handing our the invoice she even came to the front of the desk, escorted us to the concierge desk where we had our luggage stored and wished us safe travels.
The entire front office team was super pleasant and always very helpful.
They also helped organizing a pcr test for our return flight home.
Concierge:
The concierge team is sort of a hit or miss. Some of them were great and interacted and others again were just standing there. And in our eyes, some of them also had problems to understand
English.
The guys today at check out were absolutely great and helped in every way possible.
Room / Suite:
The one bedroom suite we got was beautiful. It was massive in size and had. A great atmosphere.
The Interior is classic with some small ancient and classic Thai accents and decorations. There is nothing modern but it also doesn't feel old or dated. Thanks to the real Thai Style and
decoration a great mix.
Both rooms, the living room with couch and own desk as well as the bedroom with couch are big in size and feel very airy and comfortable. Lots of natural light comes in with the almost floor
to ceiling windows. We had an amazing view over Bangkok and the Lake Ratchada.
The aircon was super strong and I am not sure if the thermostat worked correctly. You can steer both rooms individually.
The king size bed was super comfortable and the mattress was top. Pillows and duvet were amazing and we had a really good and a restful sleep. All rooms at this property are equipped with
the luxury collection bed and bedding.
The suite had two full bathrooms which was awesome.
Both bathrooms werw very big in size and both bathrooms had a huge walk in shower as well as a separate bathtub. Otherwise a regular hotel bathroom.
WiFi worked very well everywhere in the property and also the speed was good. No issues to work with the laptop in the room, Lounge or lobby bar.
Housekeeping does a geart job.
The Sala:
Restaurant Bar at the Pool deck which offers light Asian and Western dishes. Drinks are great and we enjoyed our sundowner Mojitos at this place.
Rossini's:
Italian Restaurant, Closed
Orchid Café:
Orchid Café is the main restaurant of the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit. It is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
The breakfast buffet is quite big and has different stations you can chose from. There is a bread and pastry station, fresh fruits and juices, cereals, hot Asian dishes as well as a live egg
cooking station.
The quality of food was delicious and everything was freshly prepared.
All in all a good breakfast but way below the JW in Bangkok and about the same level as the Renaissance Hotel.
The staff at breakfast was really so so. Some of them were amazing, super friendly and interacted with the customers and others wouldn't open their mouth to greet or say good morning.
The Living Room:
Jazz Bar and Lounge for cocktail time.
This bar serves as lounge for the cocktail happy hour from 17:00 until 19:00.
Then it is open for another hour until 20:00.
Otherwise still closed.
Bar Su:
Main hotel bar in the basement.
Closed.
Special Events / Dining Options
Le petite chef: Closed
Dine in the Dark: Closed
Digital Delicious: Closed
Pool / Spa / Gym:
The pool area is amazing. I haven't seen such a tropical garden on a hotel roof.
The pool itself is great in size and. Is completely covered with trees. There is also a jacuzzi.
The hotel offers enough sun chairs and umbrellas.
The pool staff was nice and always there to help with towels.
The pool bar staff was always super attentive and the drinks and snacks served out of the la Sala Restaurant were really good.
Spa / Gym:
The spa and gym are also located on the 3rd floor, same as the pool.
We did not have the time to try them out.
Social Media:
The social media team posts on Facebook and Instagram but isn't otherwise active.
No interactions at all.
All in all a good stay at the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit.
The property is an old grand lady but still in good shape. The suite was great and had a super atmosphere.
Staff is a hit or miss. Either you have amazing staff who are helpful and interact or you get the complete opposite. No greeting, no interaction nothing.
It is a good option for a stay in Bangkok and we can recommend the hotel.
