The hotel is located downtown Athlone and a lot can be reached within walking distance.

The check in was one of the worst check-in's i've had for a long time and totally against all the Starwood Preferred Guest procedures.
I was getting to the Front Desk and the agent was on the phone. Another agent came out of the Backoffice and looked in my direction and said "Next" even I was alone. When getting to the counter he looked at me and just said "yes".
There was no welcome, how can I help you, how was your journey etc. Simple "Next... Yes"
In addition no procedures were followed for their loyalty program members and the agent seemed to be in a snit. He had no idea what he did and no Customer Service Experience at all.
Check out was ok. It was a Trainee Agent but she was much friendlier and more professional as any other Agents er had.

The room is nice with floor to ceiling windows. It is comfortable and has a welcoming atmosphere. The Interior is rather timeless with some small modern accents.

The Team at the bar in the Lobby was so so.
The first Night was a desaster. Staff had no idea what they did, were arrogant and one of the waitress shuffeld Food who shifted on the plate back with her fingers.
The second Night a completely different Team was working and it was completely different, like Day and Night. They worked as a Team, interacted with their guests and were doing an amazing job.

Staff at Breakfast was AMAZING!!! They did a fantastic and stunning job. All of them interacted with their guests, were super present and you could see the pride in what they did.
They always asked how the evening/night was, how the Day was and what the Plans would be. They acted as "concierges" and gave tips and hints on what to do. Haven't seen such an interaction and great service at Breakfast for a long time.

Front Office staff were a desaster for the entire stay. When going to the Front Office they gave you the feeling of disturbing them and some even looked grumpy and bugged out.
Haven't seen such an unfriendly Front Office in a long time and it wasn't a single person, it was the whole Team throughout the entire stay.

The Lounge is a regular guest room just all furniture taken out and 4 tables put in. It is not worth to call it Lounge. It was never stocked up and it seems no one cares about the Lounge.

It was a completely mixed stay. Some top experiences and some of the worst.
I would recommend the Hotel for its rooms and Breakfast and the Staff at Breakfast whilst Front Office and Bar can be skipped.
