General Info:
The hotel is located in vicinity of O. R. Tambo international Airport in Johannesburg. The hotel itself offers a free shuttle bus to and from the airport which runs every 30 minutes starting at 05H15 until 23H00.
The Hotel has a total of 214 rooms, which were just recently completely renovated. The rooms as well as the entire hotel is aviation themed.
The hotel is super modern and looks more like a "Fire & Iceβ€œ Protea Hotel than a regular Protea Hotel.
Check-in:
The check in was good. The agent interacted with us but seemd more like a robot doing everything stoic. Never the less he was artificial friendly.
Check-out:
Check out was normal. The agent asked if everything was okay and that was it.

Staff at the frontdesk were like machines or robots. No personal interaction, no smiles just doing their job without passion and pride and it seemed they are super stressed.

Marriott Bonvoy Recognition:
The Hotel strictly adhered to all Marriott Bonvoy procedures and all benefits received automatically. No upgrade received as I booked already the highest available room.
At check-in they asked for the benefits we would like to have and as we have to leave very early in the morning, we decided for the points.
The welcome amenity in the room was simply woww. There was a handwritten welcome card from the GM, a bottle of bubbles (non alcoholic) as well as a huge plate with salty snacks and one with sweet items.
That welcome amenity was simply wowww!
Room/Suite:
As said, the room is newly renovated and looks simply amazing. Very modern but still with a warm atmosphere where we felt settled immediately.
The Theme they have chosen throughout the entire property is aviation.
The deluxe room with Airport view was on the 4th floor. A real downturn is that the hotel makes you pay extra for an airport view but there is none, as huge trees are in front of the window.
Otherwise the room is very modern with wooden floors and all furniture is held in Aviation theme. The desk for example is a wingflap, the minibar and coffee unit is a suitcase, mirrors are engine cowling. There are aviation pictures and the colors are warm and welcoming.
We really loved the room and the warm atmosphere.
The king size bed was super comfortable and so was the entire bedding. Top comfort.
Bathroom:
There is a separate toilet right at the entrance door as the bathroom otherwise is open into the room. It offers a huge bathtub, a super modern walk in shower with rainforest shower head. The water pressure is good.
There is a glass wall and curten for your privacy when you shower to divide it from your room.
Housekeeping:
Housekeeping does a great job and the room was impeccable clean and well prepared.
Housekeeping staff were actually the most friendliest in the entire property. They greeted us all the time and had a smile on their face.
F&B:
The hotel offers a Bar and Restaurant called the Warehouse on the ground floor with a huge patio outside in the courtyard. Lots of seating possibilities in and outside.
The bar is on the left hand side. Staff is a hit or miss. Either they are friendly and chatty or they just play the artificial friendliness.
Drinks were okay and the atmosphere at the bar was super industrial, rustic as it is completely out of metal, just like the name says "Warehouse".
The restaurant is on the right hand side. Here the decor is more wood but still the industrial style. There are 2 huge communal tables which is not everyone's cup of tea.
The menu is okay for a Protea Hotel and offers a wide range of dishes.
Also in this Protea Hotel they offered a buffet for dinner. After the fantastic dinner at Protea Nelspruit we went for it. Oh boy, were we wrong. The buffet wasn't very good, except the salad buffet. Hot food was mediocre to non eatable for European tastes. In addition all food was cold and the veggies were still raw.
So we recommend to eat a la carte at this property.

As we left the Hotel at 7:15AM we skipped breakfast which means we can not give any feedback on the breakfast.

Pool / Spa:
The pool is in the backyard of the hotel. Water was super cold but that is okay as it is only spring here in South Africa. There are enough sunbeds available but unfortunately these beds are completely worn out and you can feel every metal bar on your back.
Unfortunately next to the pool is the Highway as well as the airport tarmac. The noise level is massive and after an hour it's starts to bore yourself.

The Hotel offers a well equipped and sized gym in the basement.

Social Media:
The hotel is mostly active on Facebook and also interacts on posts. This is a first in a very long time and is highly appreciated.
Summary:
All in all an okay stay at a typical airport hotel. The service and staff was okay and so was the rest. The rooms are new and modern and have a great atmosphere. The free airport shuttle is another selling point.
This property is perfect for 1 night if you either arrive late at Johannesburg International Airport or if you leave early the next day.
For such a purpose we can definitely recommend this hotel.
