This stay was a one-night staycation as the Hotel only reopened a few days ago after months of being closed due to COVID.
The Renaissance Zurich Tower Hotel is located in district 5 in Zurich, also known as Zurich West. It is a gentrified industrial centre. It is a cool part of the city and it is the new place to hang out amongst Zurich’s millennials. There is a lot to see and do in Zurich West, all without the hoards of tourists you may find in the old town.
The location is quite good, and everything can be reached easily by foot or the convenient Swiss public transport. The closest Train, Tram and Bus station is ZΓΌrich HardbrΓΌcke which is only a 5min walk away from the hotel. From this station you have perfect connections in all directions and for example the airport is only a 9-minute train ride away and Zurich main station is only a 3min train ride.
The Hotel itself is located over 14 floors with 252 rooms and 48 suites.
The check-in was good, and the agent was friendly and helpful. He offered a glass of sparkling wine or water upon check-in as welcome amenity.
Unfortunately, no Marriott Bonvoy recognition at check in despite of a: β€œI can see you are a Bonvoy Member”. Otherwise, no recognition from the agent but all benefits received.
Check-out was simply perfect. The agent interacted with the guests, took care of questions, and made sure everything was okay.
Staff at the front desk is a hit or miss, depending on who you talked to. One of the members was rather rude and unfriendly. When taking some pictures of the Artwork which the Hotel is showing in collaboration with the Zurich University of the Arts, he came up and asked in a police style matter what we were doing and why. I just think because of his young age his ego is bigger than his competence, but it left a sour taste about the entire team.
Thanks to our Ambassador Elite status with the Marriott Bonvoy program we were upgraded into the Grand Suite.
A stunning and beautiful suite. It has a dark wooden floor, and the furniture is in brighter colours. There are a lot of pictures and art in the room. The ceiling to floor windows makes the room very airy and gives it an even bigger feeling. The panoramic view over the city of Zurich is beautiful.
The suite has a living room with separate toilet and a bedroom with the big master bathroom and a walk-in closet. The room itself is in good shape and housekeeping does a great job. Everything was clean and tidy. Unfortunately housekeeping forgot to check some spots and we found some cans and bottles of a previous guest in the fridge and some candies and chewing gums in a drawer.
When notifying the staff, it was taken care of immediately.
The bathroom is very spacious and bright. The shower was perfect and had some great water pressure. The set up of towels could have been somewhat nicer as you could tell that the towels were only thrown in a corner.
Renaissance hotel has changed the amenity provider for their bathroom amenities, and we loved the new items from Bulgari.
Dinner was served at the Equinox restaurant. The look and the feel of the outlet is very modern, bright and young.
They choices of drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) they offer as well as cocktails and wines were great.
The food menu was somewhat different. They still have a reduced menu card available due to covid. They have around 4 starters and some different salad bowls and the rest is basically fast food you can choose from. They do offer 5 different hamburgers and around 3 different club sandwiches. As regular main course they have fish and chips or a beef fillet. There is not a single vegetarian item available or something light. We would recommend reducing the menu to fewer items but offer a bigger choice which would include some pasta or risotto instead of the many burgers.
For us it was to much junk food for a 5-star hotel.
I am sure they will change it again once COVID allows a full restaurant set up.
We had a salad, a small beef tartar to start with and a burger and the fillet as mains. The food was very fresh and delicious.
The bar is open as well, but they do serve you the drinks only at the registered table for dinner which is for COVID reason. That was completely fine for us as we enjoyed a 5-sheep rated mojito.
Staff in the restaurant was nice and friendly. As they were very well booked that night, you could see that they are not used to the rush anymore. The service had some hiccups, and they need to reorganise themselves. I am sure that they will find the level again they had before.
What we really liked to see is that everyone started to help each other and additional staff from other departments came in to help including management.
Breakfast was served as well at the Equinox restaurant. The staff in the morning was simply amazing and especially Tereza was the sunshine in that outlet. She smiled, talked to guests, and had a nice chat and open ear for everyone. That is exactly how you would like to start the day.
The hotel offers a nice buffet with fresh fruits, different cold cuts as well as fresh bread, croissants and danish. They have a small hot item buffet with scrambled eggs, bacon and sausages.
In addition, you will get a menu card where you can choose different hot items (omelettes, egg benedict, crepe, waffles etc) freshly prepared to your preference.
Everything was super fresh and delicious.

The hotel also offers a lounge which is open. The lounge is rather small but offered a nice choice of snacks and drinks during happy hours.

On the top floor of the hotel there is a gym and spa. The spa includes a sauna and a steam bath. Due to the covid situation you need to make an appointment for the spa. This is no problem as you will be able to enjoy the area privately and this is an extra bonus with the current situation.

All in all, a good stay at the Renaissance Zurich Tower Hotel. The hotel has an amazing hard product, and I am sure they will work on the small hiccups on the soft skill side.
Even the Hotel is rated 5 Star you can not compare it to the other 5 star hotels in the city (e.g Dolder etc). It is a top modern and beautiful Renaissance Hotel which offers exactly what Renaissance Hotels stands for.
Should you be in Zurich once, we can recommend you this hotel for your stay.
